House Blessing

The Feast of Theophany was celebrated earlier this week (Monday) and today our family gathered with some other families in our neighborhood to have our homes blessed. Unfortunately one family was not able to join us due to illness.

We gathered, adults and children together, at the first home and enjoyed a potluck breakfast while waiting for Fr Daniel to arrive. It was tasty eating.

When Father arrived, after he had a plate, we visited each house for the blessings.

Together we all went to each home, and with our friends we prayed and we sang: “When You, O Lord, were baptized in the Jordan, the worship of the Trinity was made manifest! For the voice of the Father bore witness to You, and called You His beloved Son! And the Spirit, in the form of a dove, confirmed the truthfulness of His word. O Christ our God, who has revealed Thyself and hast enlightened the world, glory to You!” And Fr Daniel went from room to room blessing each room with Holy Water.

At our house I asked Fr. Daniel to also bless the area where our garden is –currently that area is mostly dirt and snow. At the conclusion of our house blessing I also asked if we could sing ‘Memory Eternal’ for my Dad who died a year ago this coming Tuesday.

    Hey man –
When Father Anthony comes out to our place -we live an hour from Church – he has to bless, the house, the barn and the cows!
When we entered the Church, I was taught to have a list of the living and the dead available so that we could sing “Many Years” and “Memory Eternal” at the end of the service.
    It is very, very comforting.
    In Christ,
    Leah
