how would you describe the flavor?

April 15, 2009

“I like the unusual flavor of Thunderbird wine…. Thunderbird has an unusual flavor, all it’s own. Not quite like anything I’ve ever tasted….”

Are this really the kind of descriptive words that someone should be using in advertising?

everything is amazing, nobody is happy

This afternoon I spent time with Compadre David.
Good times.

In the course of our conversation we touched on the topic of the phrase “be kind rewind.” How it used to be that video stores wanted you to rewind your video tapes before you returned them. (i dont know if they still do that, i currently get all my movies from Netflix or the library) David reminded me that some stores even would charge you if you did not rewind the tape.
And now… with DvDs, there are some people who will never know the phrase “be kind rewind.”

Does anyone even rent video tapes anymore?

When I returned home I saw that my friend Catherine had sent me a link to a an interview with Louis CK on Conan O’Brien’s TV show. His words resonated with me… maybe “bits” like this are a sign that I am old… I don’t know.

As I hear Louis CK talk about highspeed internet available on a plane I was reminded of a time I went to the Walla Walla Public Library.
There was a sign on the door of the library that the internet was not available on the library computers that day. I overheard a woman say “No internet… Why did they even bother opening?”

As a mere mortal I often wonder, at nite, if the house is secure… who knew that the Grim Reaper worried about the same thing.

I planted some seeds into the garden yesterday….

And

I woke up this morning and there was no snow on the ground; unlike last Sunday morning….

So I did it– I made the commitment to it being Spring!
I took the studded tires off of my bicycle, and put back on my regular bike tires.

I had previously procrastinated when I had considered making the switch. A procrastination that paid off –unlike many procrastinative moments. (procrastinative? is that even a word? it is now.) But my earlier procrastinations proved fortuitous because snow followed on both occassions.

But now I have made my stand with Spring– I have committed my bike commute to the cause of Springtime.

I hope I made the right decision…

Regret vs Procrastination–which is the prefered option?
Hmm.

let the (garden) games begin

Even though I woke to snow laying lightly on the ground last Sunday…
And even though we experienced a bit of hail and a flake of snow here and there this past week…

I decided to start planting some of my garden today.

I planted a row of raddishes, a row of cabbage, a row of carrots, and a 1/2 row of spinach– I will turn the spinach into a full row when all of it sprouts.

I figure since they are pretty much cool weather plants that I would go ahead and take the gamble and see what happens. More snow??

I wish I would have only planted a half row of cabbage and then complete the row when the first half sprouts to allow for better usage of produce. Since the reality is what am I going to do with a bunch of heads of cabbage all at one time? Oh well.

The 2009 garden has begun!
More to planting to come….

for this time

Yesterday, as Becket and I were talking; I came to realize that there are certain truths of the Christian faith that he did not understand….

I feel like I have failed my son.

This morning as I prayed the prayer of the Optina Elders the words: “In every hour of the day, reveal Your will to me.” It seemed to me that the realization of helping my son (and all 3 of my children) to understand the Christian faith, is God’s will for me at this time.

Lord help me to be a patient and selfless father.
